My brother Michael has severe rheumatoid arthritis.
I have learned over time that there are many types of arthritis, but the trigger for the disease is still largely unexplained and can be down to a number of genetic and environmental factors. In a nutshell though my brother’s own immune system relentlessly attacks parts of his body causing excrutiating pain, redness, swelling and inflammation in his joints – especially bad in his ankles and knees as well as his hands, feet and eyes.
Many people are unaware of the sheer hell that sufferers of this terrible condition go through. But family members of those afflicted become quickly and painfully aware. Life changes both for sufferers and for their families who watch in helpless distress and who are obliged to become carers in many cases.
At first Mike’s condition, although limiting was not too bad. He still had his job as a mental health worker, a good relationship with his partner and a much loved daughter who was the light of his life. He enjoyed a great social life centred around family, football, music, theatre etc. All too quickly though, he found himself rejected by his partner who left for someone more able bodied, then soon after, he lost his job on “health & safety” grounds, and found himself living alone in a tiny spartan flat. He misses his daughter terribly, and as her mother and new partner moved further away, Mike now only gets a visit once or perhaps twice per month.
Mike now needs a total knee replacement operation due to the extent of damage caused by the disease and he is in severe pain. Unfortunately he is unable to have the operation as his leg is infected and he must reduce his steroid intake in order to make the operation safer. He is caught in a vicious circle of drug dependency.
We are now looking for natural therapies capable of interupting the cycle of pain, damage and dangerous side effects. Upon researching this I was surprised and inspired to find that others have managed to make significant improvements and even put themselves into permanent remission using natural methods. I was impressed with the information I found in a couple of well researched programs. Although these are not written by doctors, they are actual people who have had the disease and found natural therapies which work!
It’s got to be worth making a huge effort to break out of the drug poisoned cycle I reckon.
I started this site for my bro’ and it’s dedicated to him, to everyone who suffers with this dreadful condition and to their families. I will be posting any helpful information I can find and please feel free to contribute your thoughts, experience, comments and successes. To your health!
This is intended as light relief from a painful condition…
